Ladybeard is my third feature film. It is about a Huntington standup comedian who tries to stop his lesbian best friend from coming out to her conservative family so that he can continue being her fake boyfriend.
It won Best Feature at the 2013 West Virginia FILMmakers Festival, and it screened at the 2013 Mountaineer Film Festival, the 2013 Appalachian Film Festival, and the 2014 Queen City Film Festival in Cumberland, Maryland.
I got the idea for this film because I was almost someone’s beard once.
I wanted to make a movie about LGBT issues as well as a movie about friendship and the anxiety of losing a friendship or a friendship changing — your role in someone’s life changing, especially if that role is such a strong part of your identity.
I met a lot of great people working on this and got to work more closely with a lot of friends I’d wanted to work with for a while. The making of it was a very special time in my life.
